Sonia Rivera is a seasoned leader with decades of experience in public service, business, and nonprofit development. Known for her strategic leadership and commitment to results-driven solutions, Sonia has dedicated her career to strengthening communities across Texas, making her an inspiring Houston city council candidate.
Born in Michigan and raised in a hardworking farmworker family, Sonia moved to Houston at 19 to pursue new opportunities. Her journey from humble beginnings to respected leadership reflects her deep belief in the power of perseverance and opportunity. As a proud mother of two adult children, Sonia’s role as a parent continues to fuel her passion for policies that strengthen families and expand opportunities for future generations.
In 2008, Sonia founded Genesis Consulting to guide nonprofits and small businesses in compliance and capacity building. Two years later, she launched Youth Genesis Consulting (YGC Inc.), a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young people through arts and education. YGC’s programs, including Art Evolution, Flor y Canto, and Teen Evolution, have impacted thousands across Greater Houston and earned national recognition from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
Expanding her impact, Sonia later established Sorivera Strategies, a firm advancing small business development, construction, and community infrastructure projects. She also serves as a managing partner at Republic Right Solutions and Voters Voice, providing political education statewide, and as a principal consultant where she equips candidates with strategies for success in their political campaigns.

Crime & Public Safety
Sonia Rivera is a staunch defender of law enforcement and a proven advocate for safer communities. Since 2018, she has volunteered with local law enforcement agencies, building stronger, more effective communication between police officers and the communities they serve. She understands that crime doesn’t discriminate; it affects families in every neighborhood, regardless of background or income.
With years of experience working alongside local, county, and state officials as well as leaders at the federal level, Sonia has seen firsthand how failed policies weaken public safety and erode trust. She is committed to reversing these failures by championing solutions that support law enforcement, strengthen accountability, and ensure officers have the tools they need to keep our neighborhoods secure.

Sonia helped launch EMLI Mesa Gardens, a landmark project that will provide secure, affordable housing for 300 Houston families upon completion in 2026. She also led nearly $1 million in beautification projects across Greater East Houston, strengthening neighborhoods, boosting the local economy, and restoring community pride.
Her approach is simple: empower people, not bureaucracy. Sonia believes government should cut red tape, speed up permitting, and remove barriers that make housing unaffordable. By partnering with private and nonprofit groups, she will expand housing choices, protect property rights, and keep taxes low.
On infrastructure, Sonia is focused on smart investments in roads, drainage, and flood control. Houston cannot grow with broken systems and outdated planning. Sonia will prioritize solutions that protect families and property without waste, politics, or gimmicks.
